Yosil Rosenzweig recently recorded with (his new band) The Kosher Gravy Co. to complete their first album. When Yosil Rosenzweig and the Kosher Gravy Co. took to the stage the first time they took his music to a whole new level.  Some of the songs are played as they were originally written, others have been re-worked and expanded. The Kosher Gravy Co. is the collection of musicians who Yosil Rosenzweig played with, written with and is inspired by everyday.

Rabbi Yosil Rosenzweig is a singer, songwriter, storyteller and teacher and combines all these talents in his musical presentation.

Yosil Rosenzweig has been playing Jewish music since he was 17 years old. He started playing one night at camp Gan Israel with his mentor Rabbi Akiva Greenberg, and fellow camper Dave Berg.  Since he bought his first guitar he has played all genre’s of music. In the late 60′s he was befriended  by Rabbi Shlomo Carlebach and  played with him across the Land of Israel and the United States. In 1971 Yosil Rosenzweig and Avraham Rosenblum formed a duo called B’nai Tzion that would play acoustic versions of traditional Jewish songs as well as many their new compositions.

In the mid 70′s Avraham’s new band the Diaspora Yeshiva Band (DYB), (that single handedly revolutionized contemporary Jewish music) was formed, during the period of 1974-78, while Yosil Rosenzweig lived in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, the DYB toured Israel and the world playing their “new Jewish music,” much of their repertoire were his originals.

They mixed Rock & Roll, country, jazz and blues with traditional Jewish liturgy, prayer and sounds.  Some of DYB’s most famous songs are Yosil Rosenzweig originals. In 1976 DYB won the Chassidic Song Festival in Israel with his song Pitchu Li. And it 1978 they won again, this time with his song Hu Yiftach Libeinu.

In late 1978, Rabbi Yosil Rosenzweig and his family returned to Israel and occasionally played onstage with DYB. In 1981 he started Livnot U’lehibot (to build and to be rebuilt) in Sefat, a half day work, half day study program which recently won the President’s Prize in Israel.

He plays music by ear and connects spiritually to the words and sounds. All of his inspiration comes from prayer and scripture. He has written original music for weddings and other venues. Because he has always performed as a solo act and other groups have performed his music, many Jewish music officianados don’t even know they are singing his music on a regular basis.

Over the last 40+ years Yosil’s Rosenzweig songs have influence many Jewish musicians, and lovers of Jewish music.

Yosil Rosenzweig has always incorporated music into his life and shared his love of music with the people around him.  Before coming back to America, he continued his career as a pulpit Rabbi in a number of different communities.

Rabbi Yosil Rosenzweig is also an excellent speaker and writer. He’s traveled around the world giving speeches about hot topics. Including but not limited to weekly Torah portions, Israel and Jewish life in the US.  (via Reb Yosil & The Kosher Gravy Co. website)
