The Maccabeats, noted for their 2010 Hanukkah song “Candlelight” just released a new music video for the upcoming Purim, called “Purim Song,” this time spoofing P!nk’s 2010 song, “Raise Your Glass“.

The Maccabeats are an all-male college a cappella group from Yeshiva University.

The Maccabeats were founded in 2007 by Michael Greenberg (though the group did not call itself  The Maccabeats until the following year). The original group included Julian Horowitz, Immanuel Shalev, Chanina Abramowitz, Yona Saperstein, Michael Greenberg, Josh Jay, Dani Landman (musical director), Asher Morris, Aaron Schultz, and Eli Wiesenfeld.

The current lineup includes Chanina Abramowitz, David Block, Michael Greenberg, Noah Jacobson, Josh Jay, Nachum Joel, Ari Lewis, Mordechai Prus, Jeffrey Ritholtz, Buri Rosenberg, Meir Shapiro, Yonatan Shefa, Immanuel Shalev (associate director) and Julian Horowitz (director). Uri Westrich has directed the group’s music videos to date.

The group released its first album, Voices from the Heights, in March 2010. In November 2010, they released “Candlelight, a Hanukkah-themed single directed by Uri Westrich, a medical student and Yeshiva grad. The song, a spoof of  Taio Cruz’s “Dynamite“, has received over 4 million hits on YouTube.

The Maccabeats opened for Matisyahu at the Yeshiva University Chanukah Concert in early December 2010.
