Shas unveiled a new web application for smartphones. On the application, called Maran Shelita (Hebrew for the great rabbi, who should lives a good and long life),  requests for blessings can be sent to Shas mentor Maran Shelita Rabbi Ovadia Yosef.

The application also includes a speech by the rabbi, a video about his life, and a daily lesson in Jewish law.

Shas was careful not to condition the blessing on voting for Shas, because that would have been against the law. (via JPost)

Using an iOS  device to add a  Maran Shlita icon to the home screen is very simple. Visit the website here, then click the icon that looks like a box with an arrow jumping out of  it  (on the bottom of the screen),  click ‘Add to Home Screen’, change the name if you want.  Done.

On Android there’s a few different ways to achieve this.

  • Bookmark the page you want to add to a home screen
  • Go to the home screen you want to add the link/bookmark to
  • Long-press in an empty space to bring up the “Add to Home Screen” menu
  • Select “Shortcuts”
  • Select “Bookmark”
  • Choose the bookmark you’ve just created

Depending on your device and version of Android, this may work:

  • Bookmark the page you want to add to a home screen
  • Open the browser “bookmarks” screen
  • Long-press the bookmark you want
  • Select “Add to Home screen”
