Written for children, Ollie and Taavi like to celebrate lighting the candles on Shabbat, dipping apples in honey for Rosh Hashanah, sitting inside the sukkah and  lighting the candles on Hanukkah. These two Jewish dogs celebrate their own way. Come along throughout the Jewish year with Ollie and Taavi.

For children of any age, and a great reference for Jewish Holidays for anyone.

The two adorable dogs Ollie and Taavi have been animated for this digital version of the book.  There are interactive objects on every page that kids love to touch and watch what they do.  Try and find all of the objects throughout the story. Narration with word highlighting read by the author. You can record your own narration as well. Music throughout the book.

Author Ellen Press  is a native Californian and still resides in Southern California. She grew up with a passion for writing and photography. As a Jewish educator and librarian, Press developed a skill for bringing stories to life for young audiences.

The writing for Ollie and Taavi Celebrate the Holidays began a few years ago when Ellen’s own children were young. This book describes her family holiday traditions – including food, activities and even a little history (as expressed for Shavout.) Press has fond memories of being read to as a child and envisioning children sitting next to a parent, sibling or grandparent while giggling at the words or the photos of Ollie and Taavi. As a teacher herself, Press hopes that religious school teachers would use her book as an introduction. “I choose two dogs as the main characters as I didn’t want the book to be attracted to one gender,” she said.

Whether stories are read to a child, delivered to a child verbally or if a child becomes the reader, books enhance a mind to think, imagine and problem solve,” she said. “When growing up there were always wonderful stories for me to read, but they were usually secular. Jewish picture books were few and far between. Today there are more stories for a young reader to choose from, and I always felt in my heart that I could contribute to a Jewish child’s love for reading.
