Shmirat HaLashon (“guarding of the tongue”) is a Jewish concept of watching what one says.

The Chofetz ChaimRabbi Yisrael Meir HaCohen (Rabbi Yisrael Meir Kagan) – wrote an extensive book, from which he derived his pseudonym, concerning the laws. The Chofetz Chaim divided the book in to two parts: one about  lashon hara, ‘evil speech‘, and one about  rechilus, rechilut, gossip.
