Mobile phone providers Pelephone, Partner (Orange) and Cellcom launched sales of the iPhone 4 on Friday (September, 24).  Apple importer iDigital, meanwhile, is selling a SIM-free, pay-as-you-go version.

At around 1084 USD (NIS 4,000 ), the price demanded in Israel for the smartphone everyone’s lusting after tops the international iPhone price index published on flickr, Yahoo’s photo-sharing website. Hong Kong, natch, is the cheapest place to get the coveted touchscreen phone pioneer, at 668 USD for the 16G version.

Italy tops the flickr chart, called “How much would you pay for an unlocked iPhone?” at 888 USD, compared to a global average of 800 USD. The survey covered 19 countries (not including Israel ) where the iPhone was sold as of  last month.

You’ll pay NIS 3,200 (867 USD) for an iPhone 4 16G on Cellcom’s website, while if you want the 32G version from Partner you’ll have to part with around NIS 5,000 (1355 USD).

Internet access packages for the iPhone are also not cheap in Israel. Cellcom, for example, recommends its 1 gigabyte, NIS 80 (22 USD) per month surfing package to go with the device.
