G-dcast is a media pro- duction company with  a  nonprofit educational  mis- sion:  to raise  worldwide  Jewish literacy,  spark  great conversations  and  revolutionize religion by  demystifying  core Je- wish texts with accessible  and entertaining media,  including animated  shorts,  feature-length films and games.  G-dcast is a place to watch cartoons based on the story Jews are reading in the Torah this week.

In 2009 they animated the Torah and posted it for free online at www.g-dcast.com as well as on Facebook and YouTube.

They promise complete animation of the entire Tanach by 2014.  Now they are in the midst of producing a series on the meaning and origins of the major Jewish holidays.

Lots of us think about Yom Kippur like an annual big dark cloud of guilt, sin and hours in synagogue.  But ahoy there matey! It doesn’t have to be that way. Throw your old ideas overboard. Yom Kippur is an amazing opportunity to change,  grow and connect.  Just ask Jonah, the hero of  the Yom Kippur afternoon haftarah.

Check in with Jonah and the whale (okay, fish) and learn how Yom Kippur connects us to G-d, to our communities, and to our true selves.

G-d came to Jonah and said
Take a trip to Nineveh
And tell the people they must change their ways
But Jonah couldn’t agree
And so he left Galilee
On a boat heading off to Spain
But there’s no hiding from the One
Who caused an angry storm to come
When Jonah came clean
The sailors threw him right into the sea

Jonah, Oh Jonah
Can you hear the holy sound?
Oh Jonah, Oh Jonah
It’s not to late to come around

So Jonah’s floating away
When he’s suddenly saved
Swallowed up by a big old fish
He makes the belly his home
Three nights he spends there alone
He repents, he cries out, he prays
When Jonah’s anger was no more
The fish spit him out onto the shore
Without looking back, Jonah took up the task
Headed off for Nineveh

Jonah, Oh Jonah
Can you hear the holy sound?
Oh Jonah, Oh Jonah
It’s not to late to come around

When Jonah shared G-d’s message
People fell down on their knees
They would fast, they would plead
They would come to believe
that G-d was full of mercy
And here’s the message we’re sent
It’s more than how we repent
We can change, we can grow
We can be more than we know
This day we take to atone
Is not about us alone
For we all are in this together

Jonah, Oh Jonah
Can you hear the holy sound?
Oh Jonah, Oh Jonah
It’s not to late to come around.

Do you like it?
