“Angry Jew” is one of just few running-jumping-punching game that has distinct Jewish motifs. The game is set in 19th century Russia. You play as Mendel: an Orthodox Jew with a time machine and a mission to restore as many ‘Sifrei Kodesh’ as possible. Your task is help Mendel complete his mission.

One of the developers Gil Elnekave, says that the game was the most-fitting avenue to exploit in order to relay history and to humorously exact a fictive-type of retribution.

Growing up on those stories and learning of the hardships that Jews had to deal with from their general surroundings, we figured it would be a funny concept if one Jew fights back — a Ninjew. We think it’s time that Jews should have a graphic representative in the world of video games! Besides, there’s a little angry Jew in each of us.

Gil also told “Shalom Life”  that  “the full game will have 3 different ‘worlds’ — The Exodus, The Spanish Inquisition, and 19th century Europe, each world with its own unique atmospherics and characters. We want to add as many Jewish motifs as possible so it will be full of humor…  from our hero riding a dreidel hitting everything in his way, to a time-based mode where our hero must return home before Shabbat begins.”

It would be even cool, funny and simple game with a good graphics… but this big, ugly Der-Stürmer-like nose…

It’s free so get it a try and let us know what you think about “Angry Jew” in the comments.
